Kathy Flores

“Some people make ripples in your life that last a long long time.”

Kathy Flores. A force of nature.

Kathy was the reason we decided to start this project. Back in the middle of a lockdown in August 2021, we heard the news of Kathy’s passing and then I watched and listened as Georgie’s phone was filled with messages from people, sharing stories about what an amazing woman she was. I was so impressed about this woman that I had never met but was now hearing so much about.

How could I not know of her?? I had been a keen follower of women’s rugby for years now, and even though I knew her name, I knew very little else. I felt like we should all know what an epic woman she was - and how much she did for our wonderful game.

Where would US women’s rugby be without Kathy Flores? Her passion for the game seemed boundless. I heard about the dozens of rugby teams she helped start, helped coach and the individuals who she compelled to take up the game.

Kathy received many awards and accolades throughout her career - unfortunately, the Hall Of Fame induction came after she had passed away - but what will always live on is the impact she had on so many people. Kathy was able to instill in others a self-belief and confidence that they could do more, achieve more, and be better.’
