Sue Dorrington

Sue and current England International Marlie Packer.

Sue Dorrington - Before her time.

Sue Dorrington is often lauded for her efforts and contribution to rugby for being one of the pioneering four who organised the first women’s rugby world cup in Wales in 1991. She is one of only two people in history to have organised and also played in a rugby world cup - the other being Sue Brodie - and I can’t see that going to change anytime soon!

But she should also be lauded for her dedication to her craft. For her efforts to be the fittest, strongest, most skillful hooker she could possibly be. How she harassed ( possibly correct use of the word!) the then England hooker Brian Moore into helping her train and teaching her everything he knew about being a first-class front rower.

As part of this project, we were commissioned to create a series of videos for World Rugby. Linking the past with the present by having current players interview past players. We knew we wanted to have Sue interviewed but we were trying to think of a current player who could match her massive energy. Her big personality and genuine love of rugby. We chose Marlie Packer and we were so stoked we did!!

When they weren’t trying to throw each other over their shoulders they were engaged in the most authentic conversation covering everything that makes rugby so special. The mutual respect was immense and watching this new friendship unfold was an absolute pleasure.
